Beliefs, Myths, and Popular Icons
Barbie doll has become every
girl’s dream about beauty. If you asked any girl now, including me, who is the
icon of beauty that inspire you and you wish to look like, the answer will be
Barbie, no doubt. Barbie has been invented by Ruth Handler in 1959, and he
named it Barbie because his daughter name was Barbara. But have you asked
yourself once why Barbie is the icon of beauty, why most, if not all, of the
girls want to look like her, dress like her, and be the same like Barbie doll,
even that this leads a girl to transfer herself to the life version of Barbie
doll, so can we consider this normal, or the madness of beauty.
If we will talk about the popular beliefs
about beauty and relate it with Barbie doll, we will find that our popular
culture now, with the help of the media of course, helped a lot in changing the
concept of beauty to girls and women. We can observe that from the media and
how they all the time talk about the ideal standard of beauty, and how the girl
should be skinny, and have a specific shape for her breasts and body, and
having a small nose and big lips. These standards has become the real standards
for beauty, and made every girl who doesn’t have these standards, feel ugly,
and I think that what makes most of girls consider Barbie the icon of beauty,
and made them want to be like her.
Valeria Lukyanova is a 21 years old girl
has transformed herself to be the life version of Barbie doll through a lot of
the plastic surgeries, if you look at Valeria’s face, you will feel at the
first glance that she is not human, you will feel that you are in front of a
normal size doll, and you will may be shocked if you know that she pay over
$800,000 to be the life version of Barbie doll. Some may be confused about what
Valeria did, and will need to find explanations for what she did, but the
explanation is simple, Valeria considered Barbie doll as the icon of beauty,
because of her perfect body, the soft skin, the wide eyes, the blond straight
hair, and other things that influence Valeria like millions of girls, and that
what made her want to be the real Barbie.
A lot of girls seeking behind perfection,
so is perfection is a myth? I think the answer is yes. There is nothing in the
world is perfect, and no one in the world, whatever he did, will be perfect,
even with what Valeria did, she is still not perfect, and if you seek inside
her, you will find something wrong. Beauty is not in the exterior appearance,
look inside yourself, and you will find the real beauty.
